Frequently Asked Questions
What is Vuniper?
It's a place where you can discover new Movies, Shows, Games and Music.
Then you can also save the media, as in 'bookmark' it.
You can think of it as The Instagram of media discovery. Kinda? Ok, no.Can I download movies from Vuniper?
Nope, but each movie has a handy 'Where to watch' button.
If Vuniper was a streaming service, it could only provide a limited catalog, like it happens with Netflix.
This way you can discover movies from any platform. Even indie ones. But what if you add torrents?
That's illegal. People literally go to prison for digital piracy.
Google 'Kim Dotcom extradition'.Is there an app?
Not yet, but you can install Vuniper on iOS and Android, because it's a web-app. Just tap the 'Add to Home Screen' button.
On iOS, you can find that by Sharing the site (in Safari), then swiping the Share menu upwards.
On Android, just tap the Options button, then tap 'Add to Home screen'.But why don't you just publish it on the App Store?
The app stores forbid you from publishing an app that loads a web-app (as it would make it too easy to create apps). They require that it's programmed specifically for iOS/Android.
An option is to code Vuniper from scratch, but using a technology that allows to compile it to multiple platforms.
I'd like to explore that once most features are completed. How can I donate?
Thanks for asking! I could add a button for that in the future, as that first requires that I create a company and pay an accountant to submit taxes from that income.
How can I hide movie scores?
Simply tap on a score, then click 'Hide scores'.
There's also a toggle in the Settings page. When are the Shows, Games and Music sections coming?
Shows and Games were made public on Q4, 2024. Very few people visited those sections, so they were canceled.
Is there an RSS service?
Not yet. It's planned but not prioritized, as very few users need that.
Can you make an extension for Blockworst, Strumberg, Dratchlund, Krimskurg, etc?
Sorry. Not yet.
I understand it's more convenient for you to discover movies inside the platform you already use, but launching Vuniper from your home screen is also easy.
That's why I'm prioritizing more urgent features right now.Is there an API?
No plans for that right now.
Vuniper currently relies on free tiers from server providers, and an API would be hit frequently, so I'd need to charge for it.
That would require setting up a business plan, payment options, creating a company, and paying income taxes. Why can't I filter by genre?
That's a logical next step for an app like this, but Vuniper is not in active development right now. The developer only updates with new movies and fixes bugs. Also, most movies have multiple genres now, like 'Drama/Romance/Comedy' or 'Action/Mystery/Sci-fi', which makes it a bit harder to implement when not in active development.
What about low-budget films?
I do include them! Even foreign films. The only requisite is that they show a high level of effort, or that they become very popular.
Sometimes I'll consider approving one if there's a famous celebrity on it.
My new rule for that is: if I'm not sure wheter to add it or not, I add it.
Adding all low-budget-low-effort films is impractical, as there are many of them released every day (and the rate at which they are being released is increasing).
Every movie needs some analysis, data fetching and maintenance. When is some movie going to be released?
There's a release date for every upcoming movie. Just click on a movie, then view its release date, or click the Check button to open search results to confirm.
If you're looking for the digital release of a movie, you can Google: 'digital release date' (plus the movie title).
I'll probably add a button to automate that for you, for movies that are in theaters.
