  1. Your privacy: Vuniper is committed to ensuring the privacy of your information.
  2. Application: This Privacy Policy applies to any information that may be automatically retrieved through your use of these channels.
  3. Consent: By accepting our Terms of Use and this Privacy Policy when you access Vuniper using the Website or App, you consent to the collection, use, disclosure, storage and processing of your information in accordance with this Privacy Policy.
  4. Changes to Privacy Policy: We may amend or update this Privacy Policy from time to time, with or without notice to you. You agree to be bound by the Privacy Policy that is in effect at the time you access and use the Website or App.
  5. External Links: Vuniper includes links to other websites (like Google and IMDb), and is not responsible for the content or privacy practices of those third-party sites. You are encouraged to review the terms and conditions and privacy policies of any external websites you visit.
  6. Cookies: A cookie is a small piece of data that is stored on your computer or mobile device. Like many websites, we use cookies and similar technologies to collect additional website usage data and to operate our services. Although most web browsers automatically accept cookies, many browsers’ settings can be set to decline cookies or alert you when a website is attempting to place a cookie on your computer. When your browser or device allows it (only if you allow it), we use both session cookies and persistent cookies to better understand how you interact with our services, and to monitor aggregate usage patterns.
  7. Analytics: Vuniper uses Google Analytics in its most basic way, which stores cookies on your device necessary to perform analytics.
  8. Purpose of information collection: Vuniper uses this information mainly to count how many people use Vuniper daily, what town they visit from, whether they're accessing via desktop or mobile, and the name of their operating system. Please visit the following links to understand what information Google collects and how they use it:

  9. Right to disallow: You have the right to disallow the use of cookies (and similar technologies, like "localStorage"), unless they're meant to provide essential functionality (like remembering the preference of Dark Mode); these are referred to as "essential cookies". If you allow or disallow the use of non-essential cookies (and similar technologies), you can also change your mind later and modify that setting on Vuniper (for that, just scroll down to Vuniper's footer and click 'Edit cookie preferences').
  10. Data Retention: Vuniper has configured a data retention period in 'Google Analytics' to 14 months. The purpose of such period is mainly to allow Vuniper to visualize the amount of users that visited during the last year, and how it changed over time.
  11. Third-party cookies: Vuniper does not use third-party cookies (apart from the ones used by Google Analytics).
  12. Advertising: Vuniper does not use advertising.
  13. Host: A host is basically a company that stores websites and serves them to their visitors. Like many websites, this Service is hosted on Netlify (https://www.netlify.com/). Here's a link to their Privacy Policy: https://www.netlify.com/privacy/
  14. Asset loading: some files such as images displayed on Vuniper may be stored not only on Vunipers's host, but also on other hosts, like Amazon Web Services (https://aws.amazon.com/). When you load files from such an external provider, they are able to detect and log your IP address. Here's a link to their Privacy Policy: https://aws.amazon.com/privacy/
  15. Email forwarding: Vuniper relies on email forwarding provided by NameSilo (https://www.namesilo.com/). NameSilo is the domain registrar of Vuniper. We use their email forwarding service so that the emails that users send to vuniperapp@gmail.com can be redirected to other email addresses of our own that we specify. NameSilo is able to detect and log your IP address. Here's a link to their Privacy Policy: https://www.namesilo.com/Support/Privacy-Policy. NameSilo receives the emails you send to vuniperapp@gmail.com and forwards them to our Gmail account. See Gmail's Privacy Policy (https://policies.google.com/privacy)
  16. API: Vuniper relies on an API hosted by Cloudflare. Cloudflare is able to detect and log your IP address. Here's a link to their Privacy Policy: https://www.cloudflare.com/privacypolicy/
  17. Social Media:
Term #1, "Accounts": our social media accounts (on Instagram and Reddit).
Vuniper has links to its Accounts, and encourages users to click the links and follow the Accounts.
Term #2, "Social Media Interactions": the act of interacting with our Accounts, such as following them, sending messages to them, liking their media (posts, stories, reels, etc), commenting on their media, etc.
Term #3, "Social User Information": the combination of user profiles, information associated with those profiles, and any personally identifiable information that can be derived from this data (or the analysis of such data), of users performing Social Media Interactions.
The social media profile of a user may reveal their personally identifiable information (through its username, name, profile picture, uploaded photos and videos, etc), especially if the profile is not configured to be private.
When you perform Social Media Interactions, your Social User Information becomes publicly visible. For instance, user profiles are visible in the followers list and on places where the user performs Social Media Interactions.
Vuniper does not log, share, nor sell any of the Social User Information, as it is committed to preserving the privacy of its users.
Please be aware that Social User Information is publicly available on the web. This information can be accessed through the list of followers and places where the users performed Social Media Interactions.
It's important to note that other individuals or companies may log, share, and sell Social User Information, as it is publicly available on the Accounts. Vuniper cannot control the actions of third parties in this regard, and we encourage you to review the relevant privacy policies and settings (on your social media accounts) to manage your personal information as you see fit.

Instagram is owned by the company Meta. Meta may collect information about their users and activity. Even if you visit the Instagram link without being logged in to Instagram, Meta may still log that visit, activity associated with that visit, and information about your device and location.

Reddit is owned by the company Advance Publications. Advance Publications may collect information about their users and activity. Even if you visit the Reddit link without being logged in to Reddit, Advance Publications may still log that visit, activity associated with that visit, and information about your device and location.
Here's a link to their Privacy Policy: https://www.reddit.com/policies/privacy-policy
  18. YouTube: Vuniper allows viewing YouTube videos using an iframe that loads YouTube's website. YouTube is able to detect and log your IP address. Vuniper already uses https://www.youtube-nocookie.com/embed/ to protect users' privacy, but provides no guarantee on its efectiveness. If the user allows all cookies on Vuniper, then the videos are embedded via https://www.youtube.com/embed/, meaning that YouTube is allowed to use cookies. This allows the users to select the 'Watch later' option for trailer videos, but it also allows YouTube to collect information from the users. See YouTube's Privacy Policy (https://policies.google.com/privacy)
  19. Accounts: Vuniper allows users to log in using OAuth. This technology allows users to avoid creating a Vuniper account manually, and instead sign up and log in with their existing Google account.
When a user logs in this way, they are redirected to a Google page where they can choose to continue with one of their existing Google accounts. If they choose to do so, Google redirects the user back to Vuniper with a temporary code made specially for this purpose.
Vuniper then sends that code to its server, so that it verifies it with Google. If the code is valid, Google informs the user's email address and whether it's verified.
If the email address is verified, Vuniper then uses it to log in the user (or it creates an account for them if it's their first log in).
When logging in with Google, Google may log information about you, like your IP address. See Google's privacy policy.
  20. Information we collect about you when you create an account:
    • The date and time of your account creation
    • Your email address
    • The number of times you logged in to Vuniper
    • The number of items that you saved
    • The service you used to log in to Vuniper via OAuth (like Google)
    • Your active sessions (each with your session token)
    • The date and time you logged in, and the session expiration date
    • The last date and time you exported your data
We also store details about every item you save, in our database - such as:
    • The date and time when you saved an item (necessary for you to see the items sorted by 'most recent' first)
    • The item uid (an identifier that refers to the item you saved), and its media type (like 'movies' or 'shows')
All this information we collect about you can be easily deleted on Vuniper's Settings page (see instructions).
  21. We do not need your profile picture or full name: Keep in mind that Google may say we also require your full name and profile picture when logging in via OAuth.
Despite that, we only need your email address (and whether it's verified), in order to sign up and log in, but Google may still say you'll be sharing your profile picture and full name, because your email address can technically be used to get access to your profile picture and full name (for instance, by sending you an email or by later requesting it via an API).
Here's a discussion on the subject Google OAuth consent screen mentions data that my app did not request.
We commit to not collect your profile picture nor your full name. If we ever need that information for Vuniper to function (like to show user comments), we will ask you to manually approve the usage of such information by Vuniper.
  22. Where and how we save your data: Vuniper's database is Supabase (this is their privacy policy).
Before we store your email address in our database, we encrypt it, so that it's not stored in plain text. That identifier is later decrypted by the server when you visit Vuniper's Settings page, where it is displayed for you.
  23. Access to and updates of information: you have the right to request to be informed of what information we have about you. You also have the right to request that information to be sent to you, and to request that we delete such information (see instructions).
  24. Use of information: The personal information you provide to us will only be used in relation to the services we provide you, to communicate with you in relation to our services or to co-operate with any government, industry or regulatory authorities.

This policy was updated on July 2024 and is effective immediately.
